Dialogue in books is not meant to read in the way we actually speak—not full conversations, at least. If it did, each book would be exceptionally longer, due in part to the fact that humans often say a lot of pointless things. When it comes to writing dialogue in your book, you have to keep it briefer and more poignant than in real life.
